Through contact with Uri Geller Pokebeach got confirmation that finally after all this time Kadabra will be getting a new card and with this development presumably even more in the future. For those unaware due to a lawsuit with Uri Geller many years ago Pokemon had to stop printing Kadabra cards altogether and as a result Kadabra ended up as the pokemon with the fewest amount of prints today. Just as bad was the effect this had on the rest of its evolutionary line. Alakazam somewhat escaped the negative impact of losing its stage 1 form with special card prints that didn’t need it. Some examples are, Alakazam Lv. X, Alakazam EX, Alakazam V etc.
Abra wasn’t as lucky though, seeing as conventional stage 2 lines couldn’t be made with Kadabra missing there was almost no point to print Abra cards so this old lawsuit in essence affected Abra too.
Things finally started looking up though in 2020 when Uri Geller stated he would no longer prevent Pokemon from printing Kadabra cards with any legal action. I speculated and even made a video back then covering this, wondering if this meant Kadabra cards would finally make a comeback and the Alakazam line can finally be treated as a normal pokemon line again. It would seem that’s finally going to be the case, a new Kadabra card will be making its appearance in Pokemon Card 151 a Japanese special set releasing on June 16. The following excerpt is a new statement from Uri Geller himself:
“Hi my dear friends. I am pleased Pokemon fans are excited to see Kadabra return to the card game. Look, I want to thank the Pokemon fans who reached out to me over the last [few] years. Including the ones from PokeBeach, who kept contacting me nonstop. So basically, it was you and my granddaughters that got me to change my mind. Now we can all see Kadabra reunited with the original Pokemon in the card game this summer. I love you all. And I admit, totally open and honest. I was a fool. It was a devastating mistake for me to sue Pokemon. [Kadabra] was basically a tribute to Uri Geller. But it’s back now. Forgive me. I love you all. Much love and energy.”
And there you have it. With this development it would seem that things should get back to normal with the line. If you want more details on the whole thing as well as coverage of the entire Alakazam line in the TCG check out the video in the side. Thanks for reading guys.
